There are educational zones about local agriculture at the ends of the bridges and small groves of olive and Bergamot orange trees underneath. These are connected to farmers’ markets and cafes that also promote local produce from nearby areas. The surrounding landscape is gradually terraced to form paths underneath the bridge, some of which peel off from the ground and reach out to the existing structural columns. On top of the bridge, there is a structure of linear wooden elements that provides shade and seating for pedestrians, while also acting as support for growing wine grapes. Bicyclists can travel beside the structure, shaded by the vines. The surface of the bridge directs rain to drains, which distribute the water down to plants underneath, some of which filter the rain. The entire integrated system of structure, energy production, agriculture, plants, and recreation can be adapted to the various bridge forms across the site, thus celebrating and weaving them together.
