In contrast to a classical castle or fort, this centre’s outer surface is completely open and forms a welcoming gesture, nevertheless indicating a transition between the city & its centre.
The carved & eroded volumes evoke the impression of having been formed by the winds of time. These facades drop their structured appearance of the plan facades & adopt a liberated composition. They communicate in a very diverse manner, enabling a loud as well as a gentle connection between the inside & outside, illustrating the stories that form the cities walls.
The building scale is limited to 3 stories adjacent to the main plaza and 2 stories in all other areas of the centre. The humble height permits its visitors to open up and feel protected without suffocation, as well as creating a seizable & therefore personal connection, leading to a cohesive addition.
A basement links all the buildings and provides the necessary parking space for visitors and institutions & the supply of goods too.
