| Inspired by Italo Calvino's story about a city in which the relationship between its inhabitants is made manifest by a series of coloured strings stretched from pole to pole, our approach to create a vibrant civic life in Everyville moves away from an over-reliance on static structures and programs. Recognizing that in a world of hyper-media and accelerated telecommunication, such a strategy has become obsolete. Moreover, it is recognized that the task of creating a new civic space in an exurban site is further complicated with local divides (between local farmers and new residents). |
