With more than 200 existing landfills polluting soil, ground water and air in the south of Italy, the continuous struggle to improve health and environmental norms is a pressing issue today.
We propose a non-polluting self-powered Waste-to-Energy (WtE) facility, whose benefits act both on a regional and local level: While reducing landfills along the Thyrrean Sea coast and new A3 highway by burning and reducing initial waste volumes to 5%, the facility produces electricity, water and heat for the activation of the 10km long Solar Park South and the communities of Scilla, Favazzina and Bagnara.
An integrated circulation path as natural extension of the Solar Park South allows visitors to educate themselves by seeing the waste-to-energy processes that happen 24h a day inside the facility. The building also boasts an spa-facility with integrated heating and pools which allows for a continuous swim between wide panoramic vistas and introverted cave rooms inside the mountain rock.
