pallas house bukit tunku, malaysia 1997
the pallas house was designed in response to a challenge by a developer to explore new technological possibilities. the warped stone walls of the landscape are offset by the complex-curved perforated metallic shroud which envelopes the house itself. the shroud, entirely non-standard in that every component is a complex one-off, demands post-industrial manufacture using cnc machining. it announces the re-birth of non-standard productive possibilities, of sculptural forms and decorative surfaces, of the re-emergence of a now numeric craft. design team: mark goulthorpe, matthieu le savre, karine chartier, nadir tazdait, arnaud descombes + bernard cache, patrick beaucé. engineers: ovearup&p david glover, sean billings, andy sedgewick.
