Thin House Beijing - mentioned
The architectural challenge was to design a house that combines private rooms for living and creating art, with extrovert rooms for exhibition. The only limitations are the fix ground floor area – 50m2 – and the maximum height -10m. By choosing a rectangle of 12,5 x 4 metres as a plan we generate The Thin House, that combines the best spatial quality with an efficient organization. We split the requirements in semi levels to provide practical programmatic connections while separating the different atmospheres in different heights. Each program (Gallery, Atelier, Living space) has an independent entrance from the outside through an exterior stair. The front façade of the gallery can be open during the warm months so the gallery and the street merge. The Thin House can stand alone, in pairs or in rows. Over two hundred units will combine to form the GBD Art District to be completed before the 2008 Olympic Games. (Competition date: May 07)
