The design excludes any new structure on ground level and provides architectural and technological solutions that are integrated with nature, energy efficient, environmentally sustainable, with appealing technologies.
The North-South carriageway becomes the access to the laboratories and will also be used for leisure and sports such as athletics and road-racing, whereas the South-North carriageway will be used for cars. The design is based on a double system of suspended volumes made in iron, placed between the big piers and anchored to the viaduct through tie-beams connected to the beams of the carriageway. Stairs and panoramic lifts will connect the ground level and the vertical gardens on the façades. Emergency exits will be placed at the heads of the suspended volumes. A tracking photovoltaic system, placed on the carriageway, will supply energy with the added value of efficiency and sustainability.
Three viaducts outline cost: 21.400,000 €; unexpected costs: 4.000.000,00 €
