Bergamot is nature's gift to Calabria.
It is what gives earl grey its distinctive smell and grows only in a couple of other locations around the world. Being the base scent for many products, used in aromatherapy treatment, antiseptic and antibacterial properties with research and further development Bergamot can be the source to rejuvenate local economy while providing a dramatic landscape for tourism.
Facing slow economy and lack of industries in the region, is the Calabira doomed to abandonment or banal tourism? Or can we design a different future for it by reclaiming its nature?
A bridge turns into a Bergamot Orchard, an artificial farm in the midst of a pure natural landscape. The elevated bergamot farm creates two levels by a fine net that is stretched bellow the trees. The above will be the bergamot ecology; dropped fruits, leaves and the canopy of the trees and bellow is a promenade that is intensely heightened by the scent, color and the light passing through the net.
