The Solar Walk provides a recreational and educational journey through the landscape, providing stunning views whilst benefitting from shading, sea breezes and intermittent cafes and rest areas at widened points along its 6.5km route. The photovoltaic veranda overhead generates power which is transformed to usable energy by inverters in the power hub. From here distributers relay power to local grid level points. The proposed PV array’s area of 80,000m2 will produce approximately 15mW, sufficient for 10,000 homes. Experimental laboratory spaces are also provided for the research and implementation of future renewable energy production within the surrounding landscape. The Solar Centre is served by access tunnel to the autostrada tunnel south of the Sfalassa viaduct. The gondola station on the sub deck of the centre holds machinery for the 4-man gondola cars that ascend the ridge line from the sister station in the heart of Bagnara. Estimated cost for SPS approximately €20 - €60m.
