this curvilinear form, materialized as a solid wooden monolith 3.40m high, was developed for an exhibition at ‘le magasin’ in grenoble on the theme of public and private space. the project, conceived (literally) ‘in the shadow of ledoux’, might be thought of as a model of contemporary social space - a smooth and limitless social surface, part public, part private, across which everyone is free to circulate - which measures the distance between enlightenment spatial ideals and our own. design team: mark goulthorpe, zainie zainul. constructon team: students of the ecole d’architecture, grenoble. sponsors: the friends who each bought a plywood ring! |
