Piep house De Eenvoud, Almere
Piep house is an innovative prototype for low-cost housing constructed from styrofoam in combination with a wood-skeleton structure. The design renders two kinds of spaces, used for different activities. The first type of space are enclosed, introvert spaces, such as storage space, kitchen, bedroom and bathroom spaces which are carved out from massive styrofoam blocks using laser cutting technology. Combined, these enclosed spaces form massive blocks carying the roof. In between these blocks of mass larger open spaces are created for living, working and eating. These spaces are oriented towards specific views in the garden and interconnect with each other, by overlapping corners. The house has a super-light structure which can be built in a short period of time, saving costs.
