| How do you create something even street kids would find cool? Our starting point was to build upon the qualities of the existing factory – use of natural light, its full interior height, and its materiality – serving as a backdrop to the various activities of the Sjakket Youth Centre. Programmatically, we started with two identical vaults separated by a central backbone that contains all service functions. The two vaults house different programs which correlate with their spatial experience. One full – one empty, one locked – one unlocked. Completed by PLOT / Bjarke Ingels & Julien De Smedt 2001 - 2005.
