The concept is to develop a solar linear park with a solution that incorporates sustainable practices.
The improvements are pre-fabricated, removable and can be relocated along the linear park as needed. A meandering path for bicycles and pedestrians delineates the park and is the symbolic road to Sicilia. The hardscape is treated to visually connect to Messina's tower faro in the horizon. Pre-fabricated structures fit in a standard truck bed and are used for on site renewable energy with sources as solar photovoltaics, solar thermal and also provide sun protected areas for seating, restrooms, maintenance rooms, storage and park's leisure amenities. Other type of on-site renewable energy that is proposed is wind power. Along the lines of saving the energy and cost of demolition of the existing road, we proposed that all materials have recyclable content (pre-consumer, post-consumer), that material are extracted, processed, and manufactured regionally, and are rapidly renewable.
