Section covered by the project: 6,000 m. Tunnels: 2,000 m. Useable section for photovoltaic panels: 4,000 m over 2, which means a surface of 20,000 sq meters and a maximum annual output of 3.75 GWs.
A solar sail on the Favazzina viaduct can produce about 3.31 GW, while one solar pergola on the Costa Viola viaduct will generate 2.69 GW. The cost of the two plants is about €20M, with a 5-year amortization period.
The plant will be shared by several municipalities in order to manage and use the energy produced by the sun. In case of small municipalities, that plant would integrate the energy demand, with consequent reductions in CO2 emissions. Panels would produce all the necessary energy to operate the park, including a sustainable transport system, with zero-emission vehicles.
The total estimated cost - including the equipment required to equip the park with facilities - is €30M, i.e. well below the estimated cost for the demolition of the no longer maintained highway sections.
