Renewable energy features are meant to be unobtrusive, harvesting the existing abundant solar and wind energy available along the winding site.
The adjacent roadway, upgraded as Asphalt Solar Road, will be lined with fluid pipes under the asphalt surface, to collect, transfer and store solar heat into an underground aquifer. The system provides efficient thermal control of the tunnel at different seasons.
Undulating topography gives continuous wind flow. Strategically placed wind turbines, especially at the existing viaduct columns at the valley, harvest maximum wind energy to convert into electricity for lightings and micro-climate control of the tunnels.
Self-sustainable features such as solar panels and solar lights, spread and blend into the landscape, creating an interactive green environment.
With the budget of 40 million Euros, the proposal aims to serve a virtuous cycle of self-sustainability, capable of bringing socio-economical viability, educational resources and tourism.
