| The new settlement for the Kanaal zone will be developed as an oasis among the water, a built environment between two green wetland areas, linking to the pre-existent Boksumerdijk, that is preserved as a major slow traffic route, a central green strip that guarantees the accessibility from the surrounding districts. The proposed urban settlement develops longitudinally, parallel to the canal and the dike, with a series of secondary water and groundways that are designed in order to define double-sided building plots of different depth.
An ecological zone is planned as a buffer on both the northern and the southern boundary of the site, green and wetland islands that will host a peculiar ecosystem with a large biodiversity of species. |
