Interactive Olympic Memorial Athens, Greece
The monument was conceived as an interactive roof-structure to be located over the main entrance of a college. The concept was to explore the viewer-athlete relationship as experienced during the games. The ‘intelligent’ roof recognizes and responds to the movement of pedestrians under it. It creates both a sheltered corridor and an elevated interactive platform of information. It consists of two elements the metal structure and the colored umbrella rings. The colored umbrella rings carry sensors and mechanical mechanism that allow them to lower themselves to the eye level of the standing person the plate inscribed with information when they perceive movement and pause. In particular, each colored umbrella ring represents a different information category such as blue for the history of the event, red for the resident athletes achievements, yellow for the buildings of the DEREE campus e.t.c.
