a.s* - atelier de santos was founded by Pedro Machado Costa and Célia Gomes in 1997. Their work include the Students Residences of Laranjeiras, recently completed, the Museum of Ribeira Grande, the Aveiro’s Ecologic Centre, all them first prizes in public competitions. The Central Library, first completed work by a.s*, was selected for the European Union Prize for Contemporary Architecture Mies van der Rohe and for de FAD Prizes, both in 2004. Pedro Machado Costa, (1972) is gradueted from FAUP (1996), and Master in Contemporary Architectonic Culture by FAUTL. Célia Gomes (1972) is graduated by FAUP (1996), having also studied at Delft’s Faculteit der Bouwkunde (1995/95). a.s* work as been showed in several lectures, publications and international exhibitions, as the IX Architecture Biennale di Venezia, the IV Ibero-American Architecture Biennale, Tracing Portugal at The Architectural Association.
