SMAQ is a collaborative studio that operates in the field of architecture, urbanism and research. Founded by the architects Sabine Müller and Andreas Quednau it is based in Berlin. Both partners received a Master’s Degree from Columbia University. They teach at the Academy for Art in Stuttgart and the Technical Universities of Karlsruhe. SMAQ has contributed to a number of urban research projects in Germany, Latin America and Africa and has received prizes in renowned international competitions including Europan 5, 6, 7, and 8, the Sarajevo Concert Hall , the ‘Possible Futures’ and the Environmental Tectonics Competition by the Architectural Association, London. The winning competition entry‚ ‘DotsAndLoops’ for Burgos, Spain is currently under construction. Current projects include a masterplan for Dubai, U.A.E. and a hotel in Beijing. Most recently they implemented a public bath in Stuttgart’s Palace gardens.
