“TETRIS” HOUSING (architect as developer)
Miraflores - Lima - PERU - first prize
This multiunit residential building is an urban infill project, built on a former parking lot located at the border between a commercial and residential area of the city. This strategic location promotes a walkable lifestyle, which has been almost completely lost in the consolidated part of Lima. The project is composed of a variety of typologies which fit together as a game of “tetris.” Unlike the other buildings in Lima, this does not have a 3 metre security wall bordering the street. Instead, the front door overlooks a small bench and tree that have been placed at the border between the public and private realm, creating a pocket for pedestrians to stop and rest. Above the second floor, the façade is composed of 4 layered elements: columns, handrails, pivoting and movable panels, and floor to ceiling windows. This mask creates a single moduled - in motion element.
