MAMM
Medellin, Colombia - first prize
In the celebrated process of urban regeneration of the informal “barriadas” on the hillsides of Medellin, the formal city has “exported” structure and equipment (metrocable, stairs, parks, libraries). It’s now time that the vitality and flexibility of those “barriadas” may be “imported” to the stiffness of the newborn Ciudad Del Rio. As in the informal city of stacked houses in the hills, one’s roof is upstairs’ neighbor terrace, the new MAMM is laid out as a cascade of connected terraces. Inside the blocks, a sequence of spaces for the art. Outside, a continuous public space until the 5th floor. With the combination of both, multiple new ways for art display. Instead of a building, we wanted to make a neighborhood. Project done in collaboration with Ctrl-G.
