Paracas Lagoon
Paracas, Peru
Paracas is the name of a resort town, a peninsule, a bay, an ancient civilization, a national reserve and a strong wind. In such strong place in the desert coast 300km south of Lima, we had to design a residential complex of 265 units in a 18-hectare site by the bay. We escaped from the usual layout of houses with small gardens placed in rows parallel to the coast, instead we took the surrounding desert geography as a guide: dwellings were grouped in topographical identities that made sense as ‘dunes’, ‘cliffs’ or ‘hills’ . All of them surround an artificial lagoon we have inserted to multiply the view possibilities and release the impact on the bay. Project done in collaboration with Re.
