THE WALL
kayseri - second prize
“Like all walls it was ambiguous, two-faced. What was inside it and what was outside it depended upon which side of it you were on.” Ursula K. Le Guin, The Dispossessed

Kayseri, a town in Central Anatolia, has a plain topography with a historic castle in the heart of the city center. The ancient walls of the castle splits the city center into two parts; inside the castle a new cultural center is planned. In this 2 phase competition, we proposed to transform the inside of the castle into an urban park which has two layers of public use. On the upper level, while a three dimensional urban park covers the cultural amenities, the visual and spatial interaction between the castle walls and the inner space of the Cultural Center is formed by the help of sectional elaboration of the construction.
