NEW DESIGN FOR LANDHAUSPLATZ
Innsbruck - first prize - first prize
[LAAC Architects / Stiefel Kramer Architecture] The largest but neglected public square in the centre of the city was dominated by a governmental building from the period of National Socialism, and by a large scale memorial that looks like a fascist monument – which in fact is a freedom monument that shall commemorate the liberation from NS. The intervention aims to compensate for existing misconceptions and to create a contemporary urban space. The Gestalt of the 9000 square meter concrete floor sculpture results from negotiations between the various contradictory preconditions of the site, spatial constraints, functional requirements and morphological considerations.
