Forum Homini boutique hotel is located in a private game reserve, near the Sterkfontein Caves in the Cradle of Humankind, outside Johannesburg. Palaeo-anthropological sites situated in the area have produced the remains of hominids dating as far back as 3.3 million years ago. As a response to the cultural context, the design spatially alludes to caves and symbolically to evolution theory. The parts of the hotel, arranged around a water-body, are seamlessly stitched by the reinstatement of the "original" Highveld landscape between and over the buildings. The success of the project is the result of close collaboration between all members of the design team.
