Paars
Athens
Paars is conceived as an interior that expresses the contemporary yet discreet sophistication and freshness of the Dutch and Belgian designers whose clothes and accessories for women are on display. The design foregrounds two essential qualities vital to contemporary architecture: ‘lightness’ and ‘system’. Lightness is achieved through a bare minimum of spatial definition, as articulated by a single steel rail that continues uninterrupted throughout the space. Its thin, linear quality maximizes the perceived volume of the store, in accordance with the client’s wishes, at the same time that a highly restrained material palette of painted steel and plywood almost negate the materiality of the store itself in order to foreground the merchandise. System is achieved through the rigorous development of essential details that separately transform the steel rail into shelves, hanging fixtures, lighting rail and fitting room curtain.
