Seed House
American Architecture Award 2007 - selected
The Seed House is a conceptual design for a 1400-sq.-ft. country house set in the woods. The shape of the house was conceived as an object integrated in nature inspired by an open seed pod giving life to the environment surrounding it. The house is composed of an outer shell opening up into nature and exposing its inner core which is a hub of life and creative activity. The house as an abstraction of its metaphorical inspiration echoes its more traditional neighbors with its outer skin of natural cedar shingles designed to weather and blend into the landscape. The exterior shell appears to have burst open with slits on the roof and sides that expose the interior core of the house to the landscape. Concept Design:Antonio Pio Saracino + Steve Blatz
