The Boarding school Waldheim, a former mountain hotel which has been converted in the ‘70’s into a dormitory for the high school students of the town of Brunico, appears in the surrounding landscape as a lonely object on top of a hill. The project mainly preserves the existing structure, adding extentions to reach a better volume proportion, now squat and heavy. Our proposal was acting on two separate levels: on one side the increased surface of the widened common areas caused a redefinition of shape for the ground floor, now independent from the upper part and characterized by broader and brighter spaces, on the other side the new bedrooms were organized in both an extension of the block and an added floor on the top. The new brand two sloped converging roof was one more significant modify which caracterise the building.
