A House Divided Into 4
Kanagawa
This is a small cafe and a small residence for its owner. The living room and kitchen are located in the first floor, which also function as the cafe. The bedroom and bathroom are located in the second floor. By shifting the volume of the second floor horizontally, a cross-shaped section of the wall and floor is formed and it divides entire volume into two insides and two outsides. One inside is joined to another inside by solely a line, though divided. The outsides are the same. Hands are unable to reach, though likely to reach. So near and yet so far. Unlike the positions separated by just a wall or floor, they have such frustrating relations. In this way, the private space and public space are separated vaguely. The outside is the space that the living room and cafe are extended to the open air. In the future, outsides are due to be changed into insides.
