Chiba - first prize
This is the optician situated at the corner in a large shopping center. It is consisted only of passages which are created by the obliquely arranged walls, so people naturally enter this shop, so to speak, they take a shortcut. Surface of walls is made to be looked like a corridor, for instance, glasses are displayed on the wall like a pattern of wallpaper and mirrors are hanged up like pictures. Then holes which are made through the walls radially from the back cash desk toward two public passages lead people to the cash desk. People can enter this shop easily in the sense that they continue to walk along the public passage and also can try on glasses without feeling any stress. In this way, this shop with walls like folds provides comfortable place for people like coral reef for fish, contrary to its strong interior. We won The Great Indoors Award 2007 and the grand prize of JCD Design Award 2007.
