This project integrates a highly specific industrial process with administrative facilities and explores the sustainable and structural potential of aluminium.
The system of folded aluminium sheets forms a self-supporting, structural skin which controls the internal climatic conditions through a process of differentiation of individual components. The client asked for a strongly iconic building and condensed the properties of oxygen within the terms purity and ethereality. The choice of aluminium and PMMA allowed to unfold the client’s evocative words by wrapping the void with a few millimetres of material, materializing light through gradients of reflectivity and translucency and making the invisibility of air perceptible through a skin permeable to the sea breeze.
