Eindhoven
At the foot of one of the major icons of Eindhoven, the lighthouse, a new square was designed by Buro Lubbers. A pergola covered with wisteria and roses offers the passerby a look at the semi-public park. After shopping here one can descend on the terrace and quietly escape among lush plants the downtown traffic. The amorphous shape of the area demanded a strict structure that guarantees an optimal view of the lighthouse. The unity of design is kept by consistent forms and materials: a sober gray floor, sturdy trays of Corten steel, wooden benches. The lead is played by the vegetation: evergreen, seasonal flowers and accents of Rhododendrons.
