's-Hertogenbosch
The city centre of 's-Hertogenbosch will be extended to the GZG-site. Now a hospital site, it will become a new area for culture, living and working. The design challenge was to connect this potentially contemporary area of five acres to the historic downtown. Thus Buro Lubbers in collaboration with architect Rijnboutt based the master plan on already existing vegetation such as monumental trees. Valuable trees are retained and supplemented with new plantings. Furthermore, the monumental, historic architecture will be interspersed with contemporary buildings for housing and public functions. A dense set of small alleys and vistas will connect the new and old town. Important links therein are a number of new squares, a pedestrian and cycle bridge over the canal and the addition of a new sailing power: the New Dieze.
