's-Hertogenbosch - first prize
A former cloister in the historic centre of ‘s-Hertogenbosch has been changed into an apartment building. Only the front facade and the chapel do remind us of its history. It belongs to a sequence of courts and squares around Sint John Cathedral. This special site is totally paved with small Irish bluestone strokes in a random pattern. Because of the underlying parking garage the only trees are placed near the chapel. Wooden strokes with chairs, tables and water elements (which can be used as a wine cooler) are scattered in the pavement. In the middle of the court, a group of special lighting elements is placed. In 2004 this project won the Dutch Design Award.
