Church of St. Pio of Pietrelcina in Rome
Pavia - first prize
The occasion for the design of the Church dedicated to St. Pio from Pietrelcina in Rome was a restricted competition held in 2005. On a trapezoid lot a highly articulated volume has been conceived as a metaphorical collision of telluric plates. They generate complex configurations in which the multiple fractures are intented to express the power held in the message of St. Pio. Awarded at the European Award for Sacred Architecture 2009, 2 October 2009.
