Brückenschlag
Aachen - first prize
German Brückenschlag Competition July 2006: DS, Nox en Stefan Sous have designed nine bridges along the Wurm, the river that meanders between The Netherlands and Germany, literally spanning the border. The work includes a footpath through the Wurm valley. As a tenth bridge, this spine connects the nine bridges. Strolling along the Wurm River one imagines being in an elongated landscape with hedges, forests, fields, watermills and castles. The valley is an ancient cultural historical landscape that has remained sheltered while evolving on the sidelines of prosperity. Over the years the landscape has been treated carelessly yet this valley retains a feeling of fertile possibilities.
