Battersea Dog Home: A Dating Service (2006)
London, UK - special prize
The proposal is a park for dog-walks during the day, and at night portable recycled-card kennels to house the animals. Cantilevered cranes raise these boxes into bedtime positions into the air. The tracks are arranged vertically, with the animals racing in an inhabitable billboard. The home will expand its matchmaking service - screens displaying potential pets will help match them to prospective owners. Advertisements such as those following will be displayed: DO RIGHT WOMAN, DO RIGHT MAN, DR. FEELGOOD come rescue me! AZN M4M seeks M4MM stocky build chow-chow. This project was awarded the Grand Architecture Prize and Best Drawing Prize at the Royal Academy of Arts Summer Exhibition 2006; past winners of the Grand Prize included Lord Foster and Lord Rogers.
