Sited at the foothills of the Franciscan Monastery of Kostanjevica rising over and between Nova Gorica (Slovenia) and Stara Gorica (Italy), the competition required a master plan for a small social housing development focusing on 45 residential units and a large parking requirement, which blankets the whole site. Already on first impression the ensemble of two expressive palazzos produces a genuine Mediterranean mood. Without any fashionably heroic moves, the buildings with their noble vertical façade definition softly draping around the tectonic bodies, unpretentiously insert themselves into the background. Vocabulary: Mediterranean mood, repetition, drapery, direct & indirect illumination of flats.
