Transformed Living
Utrecht
Transformatie Woonhuis [Home Transformation] is a refurbished town apartment in a 19th century Utrecht neighbourhood. The client wanted to create additional living area. It was the client's wish that the extension at the rear of the apartment should be uniquely and individually styled in contrast to the virtually identical façades at the front of the apartments. A single copper construction was created amidst the diversity of rear façades with their plethora of extensions. The copper was applied in folded horizontal lengths. Façade openings on the first floor and the balcony above can be completely closed off with hardwood shutters. In addition to the two-storey apartment extension, the interior was also completely revamped. All rooms can be accessed from an open, spacious stairwell in the centre of the apartment and the various rooms are connected spatially by means of walkthroughs.
