Contemporary Gallery Museum Extension
Saarbrücken, Germany
The concept for the Museum extension captures the square footprints of the existing buildings, transforming them into an organizing principle for a continuous landscape that contextualizes the surrounding parks. The extension, an independent building positioned within this new context, contains two galleries for temporary exhibitions and for the art collection that appear to be floating above the landscape. Placed on one floor above the logistical areas such as entrance, café, shop and public hall, they provide extremely flexible spaces for different curational purposes. The new building is sited within the rectangular landscape context. Urban references transform its outline creating an interesting silhouette, that engages into a dialectic interaction with the existing museum.
