V&A New Contemporary Gallery
London - shortlisted
Concept developed in collaboration with Silvio Caputo architects in 2006.
Our scheme consists of three elements:
GALLERY BASKET
A grid-shell where light ornament and structure coincide that can allow the hanging or fixing of objects in any possible location.
ROOF MEMBRANE
A golden skin laid onto the skeleton to separate the new gallery from the existing classical environment.
It is perceived from the main hall as a glowing landmark.
Also the surface could be covered with coloured pigments melting with the leaking and condensation transforming this architectural cover into an aesthetical phenomenon evolving in the life of the gallery. A mutant surface “painted” by time and chance.
ACCESS MODULES
Our door divides and links spaces and visitors’ flow and gives a flavour of the content. The intention is to use prismatic rotating elements, as in street advertising billboard.
