Lister mills Regeneration
Bradford
The Lister Mills site is an amazing opportunity to create an urban catalyst for regeneration in Bradford. Our proposals integrate hyper-mixed programme, landscape, memory and ecology into an urban strategy as well as an architectural language. We call this approach the new urban weave. With its history of silk, wool and cotton manufacture, the ‘literal’ analogy of a new urban fabric, rich in colour and texture informs ABA’s scheme. ABA propose that the new square is framed by a full range of building types and uses; a hotel in the Boilerhouse, the renovated Mill 2, the Art Factory to the West; a new major office building to the north, ‘flatiron’ offices and a ‘Supermix’ community building to the west. Wind turbines in this square can supplement power for the development and are the contemporary equivalent of the great coal-smoke chimney that towers over the square.
