Invaders
Marseille
Too depressed over the September 11 World Trade Crash, and equally angered at its simplistic (and amnesiac) response, Invaders was built as a cathartic release, and a reminder of the power of the metaphor of invaders descending from the heavens. Rebuilding the classic arcade game Space Invaders, line by line, pixel for pixel, beep for beep and boop for boop, Invaders became a video game nerd’s equivalent to Pierre Mesnard’s obsession with the Quixote. It has since been used as a mobile videoprojected game to be projected onto various buildings (cf. Marseille World Trade Center ;-) thereby allowing passerbys to save the world from destruction by simply holding their arms out like a gun.
