september 11 memorial hoboken, new york
new york, 2003 - finalist
at sunset, as the sky darkens and the skyline illuminates, computer-controlled lights placed under the water surface of the reflection pool slowly light up. organized on a matrix bounded by the names of the victims and the year of their birth, the lights change in intensity as well as in pace and extend the act of remembering at night in an unprecedented way. the lights pulsate according to specific patterns to each day commemorating the victims. like the world trade center the memorial establishes a dialogue between the natural and the artificial, the permanent and the ephemeral, the organic and the electronic. design team : e. fernandez, d. rosales, e. sperber, d. serero
