Hull frontage
Hull
The concept projects proposed for Hull water frontage as part of the Humber Estuary Integrated Landscape and Investment Study were well received by the local authority, which commissioned additional design details to inform public consultation. More specifically, they requested planting palettes which we structured by a matrix of native grasses. Their delicate form and rippling movements echo the vast reedbeds fringing the Humber Estuary yet, at a smaller scale and in combination with herbaceous plants, shrubs and tree, the grass-based plantings can be designed to complement the functional character of the new waterfront spaces. Taller grasses offer protection around benches and provide a sense of intimacy; herbaceous plants create seasonal interest, with colour and scent at viewpoints and seating areas; trees and shrubs are positioned as markers to frame views and highlight gateways to the waterfront.
