The Humber Estuary Integrated Landscape and Invest
cambridge
This study looked at the existing flood defence system along the Humber estuary and proposed creative landscape-led solutions which will deliver long-term, flood-risk management security. For each of the identified 27 cells around the estuary we – Sheils Flynn team - produced an high quality booklet proposing site specific projects for floodwater attenuation on farmland, to freshwater wetland creation schemes, visitor facilities, recreational routes and urban waterfront spaces. This creative approach proved that multifunctional design is the core and essential driver for successful, integrated and sustainable solutions. The study required great stockholder’s engagement involving government agencies, various local authorities, conservation groups, farmers groups, local community groups and local businesses. The methodological and holistic design process included GIS baseline mapping to iterative sketches and concept scheme development.
