Pediatric Hematology Oncology Unit Renovation
Catania - first prize
Two orange “branchs” are inserted in the long green ribbon to allow to see outside towards the external world and, in the same time, to house different functions (as a multi-media area) destined to adapt the ward to the different ages of the pediatric patients. To connect perceptually the two different levels of the Unit (Ward and Day-Hospital), it was devised a “tree trunk” to allow the children to identify positively the place designated for their care and therapy, and in the same time to symbolize metaphorically the natural phases of life growing, seeing sickness as a temporary moment of existence.
