Royal Docks
London - shortlisted
The competition fits perfectly with the hot debate on the necessity of water-sensitive solutions that can provide an appropriate response to the current environmental, social and economic challenges to find innovative proposals to transform the world's largest enclosed docks into a world-class, multifunctional sustainable location. For this competition the team worked within three systems. This represents the strength of this concept. Green, water and channel, as endemic features, cooperate with each other to establish synergies, in order to build an eco-platform as basis for cultural activities, commercial developments and new living areas. The main green axis, pointing at the two sides of the river as the most important ecological structure of the area, becomes the green gap which connects two different urban areas.
