Tianya Haijiao Gate
Sanya - invited
“Tianya Haijiao (...literally "Edges of the heaven, corners of the sea") is a popular resort in the southern part of Hainan province, People's Republic of China. It is located 24 kilometres (...) to the west of Sanya's municipal region. The venue is considered the southernmost point of China's land area (...). The shape of the gate evocates the local "Li minority"'s art&craft elements: looms, dancing and musical instruments, carpet decorations, as well as some architectonic details. The gate consisting of a succession of seven transversal wooden portal, each one composed of a couple of curved pillars to the outside, and a inclined structure to the inside. The splitted pillars could recall the "Bamboo-beating" dance in which the dancers jump through couples of bamboo-sticks. The front is covered by wooden convex brise-soleil and a series of overturnable gates, which are raised during the opening time, the rear is covered by red curtains.
