Sustainable Leadership Award for TNT Centre The TNT Centre in the Netherlands, designed by Paul de Ruiter Architects and developed by a consortium formed of OVG Real Estate and Triodos Bank, was awarded ‘The Sustainable Leadership Award for Design and Development’. The winner was announced by CoreNet Global - the world’s leading association for corporate real estate - during the Opening Session of the CoreNet Global Summit at the San Diego Convention Center. The jury praised the TNT Centre as an outstanding project and a great start to future endeavors in this area. The project received top marks for the collaboration approach, being energy-productive on-site in a sustainable matter and sharing surplus heat with neighbors in the area. 'Globally, the corporate real estate community continues to innovate at an accelerating pace to meet enterprise-wide demands for greater profitability, accountability, social responsibility and sustainability,' said CoreNet Global CEO Angela Cain. 'We want to recognise industry leaders for the steps they are taking in breaking new ground and advancing corporate real estate thought leadership.'   TNT Centre: Energy positive The head office building of TNT Express was designed with the most sustainable technologies in light, ventilation, and recycled materials to minimize energy consumption. The surplus heat in the summer and the surplus cold in the winter are stored in water-bearing layers in the ground and are being reused in the opposite seasons. The minimum of electricity that is needed, is produced on site by a combined heat and power plant, running on second generation bio fuels (BioCHP). The extra heat produced by BioCHO on site, is used to supply surrounding buildings, turning the TNT Express Head Office into an energy positive building. The building is certified ‘Platinum’, the highest environmental rating under the LEED New Construction designation (v2.2.). About Paul de Ruiter Architects Paul de Ruiter is an advocate of sustainable, energy efficient architecture. His agency works from the premises that through research and innovation, aesthetic buildings can be developed that are both sustainable and energy efficient and are a healthy place to reside in. Buildings that give energy – both literally as figuratively – and through that inspire and increase productivity are intelligent buildings that have an explicit impact on society. Momentarily, Paul de Ruiter Architects work on an ultra-sustainable four star hotel, healthy schools and sustainable factories and housing. Renown works of this agency are the headoffice of Transavia and Martinair in Schiphol-East (BREAAM very good/LEED Platinum), the Rijkswaterstaat office in Middelburg, Veranda Carpark in Rotterdam and the UPC office in Leeuwarden (BREEAM excellent). www.paulderuiter.nl Client: Triodos-OVG Real Estate User: TNT Express Design: Architectenbureau Paul de Ruiter Interieur design: Ex Interiors Advisor installations: Deerns Raadgevende Ingenieurs Advisor Construction: Van Rossum Raadgevende Ingenieurs Advisor sustainability (GreenCalc+): DGMR Advisor sustainability (LEED): B & R Adviseurs voor Duurzaamheid Contractor: Boele & Van Eesteren Start building: February 2009 Delivery: February 2011 Gross Floor Area: 17.300 m2
